Pitt Johnstown's Program depends on community investment and partners to create a pipeline of ideas, innovation and talent. The goal of our program is develop and support new enterprises that take root in the region as part of the reinvention of Johnstown to grow beyond its deep roots in steel, defense and manufacturing industries.

Thanks to a $500,000 grant from PA DCED, Bucknell, Penn State and Pitt Johnstown have formed a consortium to promote and develop innovation and entrepreneurship in the rural center of Pennsylvania. The Cook Family and Somerset Trust Company are investing for the region's future thanks to their generous support of enterpreneurship and innovation at University of Pittsburgh Johnstown. Their $1 Million dollar grant over ten years to Pitt Johnstown will help support a wide range of services throughout the University, including The Cook Family Idea Lab,
132 Biddle Hall, and entrepreneurship education that cultivates talent and connects them to the full resources of the region and Pitt's Alumni.
Entrepreneurial Alchemy
With support and initiation from the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, Entrepreneurial Alchemy was created to foster the development of Creator Square in Johnstown and engage the community from students to makers to reshape the culture and downtown of Johnstown. Entrepreneurial Alchemy builds a stronger community of enterpreneurship through the scores of partners participating in monthly conversations at Pitt Johnstown.
Picking Fund for Entrepreneurship Education
To kickstart interest in the Entrepreneurs Idea Lab course, Skip and Adele Picking have provided a grant to fund awards up to $1000 for winning ideas and teams as a powerful incentive and investment in moving the best of the program to the next level of development. Already, six teams have benefitted from this seed funding and awards.
